Natural Play and Sound Scape
The Children’s Centre’s Natural Play & Sound Scape is a backyard experience unlike any other in St. John’s (and that’s not an exaggeration)! The first of its kind in Newfoundland and Labrador, our outdoor play space is the result of an enormous amount of planning by our staff and Board of Directors. It is a play space built primarily with organic, natural materials like wood and stone, incorporating the natural world into our programming as much as possible.
Each play or sound station in our play scape has been carefully planned to incorporate The Children’s Centre’s play-based philosophy, it’s rich history, and the incredible opportunities for learning and fun that exist in the natural world.
Our Natural Play & Sound Scape was planned in consultation with many experts, one of whom is Natural Play Space Guru Rusty Keeler, who came to visit our centre and lend his expertise to our space. Rusty is the author of Natural Playscapes: Creating Outdoor Play Environments for the Soul!. Examples of his work can be found in play spaces all over the world.
