How We Operate
Welcome to the Children’s Centre, a non-profit preschool.
The school is run by a not-for-profit organization and directed by a Parent Board.
We direct all monies into sustaining a wonderful environment
for our young children. Parent's are encouraged to participate in all aspects of our
school's operations -- from selection of staff and programming ideas to fundraising
and administration.
Where and How We Play
The Children's Centre is located in a converted house in the heart of a residential
neighbourhood in St. John's Newfoundland. Our house is filled with books, paint, sand,
water, blocks, costumes, toys ... you name it. Each week themes and set-ups -- such as
space station, restaurant, animal hospital and others -- spark children's imaginations and
learning. Outside in our enclosed backyard, there's a whole other world with a sandbox,
construction site, bubbles and various other seasonal activities and toys.
The Teachers
All our staff are experienced and dedicated Early Childhood Educators
who bring to the programs their knowledge and enjoyment of children. Their
enthusiasm and warmth can be felt by children and parents alike.
Their role is primarily as resource people, observers and guides. Also they provide
developmentally appropriate activities and materials and encouragement so necessary in
ensuring each child's progress in all areas of development.
We are proud of our low teacher turnover rate at the Centre and the stable
environment that this provides for our children.
